About Deacon Rich Mickle

What drew you to the diaconate: As an un-churched teenager, I decided to read the Gospel of Matthew, and I fell in Love with the Lord. In Matthew's Gospel Jesus speaks of coming to serve rather than being served and says more than once that if we wish to be great, we will become servants. This really resonated with me. After entering the Catholic Church at the age of 19, I learned that the first step of Holy Orders was ordination to the diaconate, which the Church calls the "icon of Christ the Servant." This became a calling for me.

Favorite Bible verse/book: In addition to the verses listed above, 1 Cor. 8:1b, "Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up."

Favorite Saint: St. Thomas Aquinas because of his sublime writings and his dedication to poverty as a Dominican.

Favorite food: Hamburger & fries.

Favorite hymn: O Sacred Head Surrounded

Favorite thing about All Saints: The friendliness

Favorite thing about the Topsail/Hampstead area: The water & fishing
